Lemons.

Had an interesting talk with elle last night...we were going through the normal bedtime routine of a couple of stories and a sleepy set of prayers, and then:

elle: (out of the blue) "Will you help me draw circles?"
me: "Ummmm...not right now, but maybe in the morning."
elle: (starting to cry) "But I need to practice."
me: "Why is that?"
elle: "Because I used to be able to draw circles last week."
me: "You still can!"
elle: (more crying) "No I can't, not anymore."
me: "Well, what happened to your circles?"
elle: (tears, sniffing) "Daddy, they all look like lemons"
me: "You can draw lemons? I had no idea? That's fantastic!"
elle: (crying less) "But they start out as circles."
me: "Do you know how many people wish they could draw lemons?"
elle: (smiling) "Really?"
me: "Absolutely, lemons are so hard to draw!"
elle: "Daddy, can we draw lemons tomorrow?"

EELL.

We certainly didn't realize the challenges of naming elle, elle. In learning how to spell her name, she was always stumped that her name had more than one letter, because you can spell 'elle' with a 'L', and be done with it.

Anyway - I have no idea when kids are supposed to be able to write their own name, but elle was so proud of herself yesterday when she, in her words, "finally got it right":

Mini.

Poor elle misses the Mini more than I do...every time we see one she asks if I can get another one in purple.

Here she is posing with one that is *almost* purple:

Armadillidiidae.

Belonging to the family of woodlice, a terrestrial crustacean group in the order Isopoda. Unlike members of the family Porcellionidae, members of this family can roll into a ball, giving them their common name of pill bug, or roly poly.

Every day, every chance, every spare cup, every minute - elle is on a roly-poly hunt.
